My ideal getaway is one that does not require getting on an airplane. When I came across a travel article featuring the sea view villas of Telunas Private Island, which is just 2 ferries ride away from Singapore, I immediately checked it out online and was sold by the beautiful pictures posted.
My 2-night stay at the exclusive villas proved that this gem in the Riau Islands of Sugi, is everything and much more than promised in the pictures. Telunas, designed to be a true getaway from the hectic city life of Singapore, is just 50 km away and does not come with WIFI, air conditioner or TV. Nonetheless there is a myriad of activities to choose from : kayaking, stand up paddling, guided village tours, trek to waterfalls, cooking demonstrations, wine appreciation, star gazing….
Apart from the commando mosquitoes and pretty average meals provided, I have nothing but praises for the quality of this resort and the excellent service provided. Having years of experience in geo-tourism, the founders of Telunas are attentive to every detail and left no stone unturned in ensuring the comfort of their guests.
On clear nights, the star filled sky proved to be the highlight of the trip. I spent hours on my villa balcony enjoying many shooting stars amidst the serenity of the night, wishing upon the stars that I will be able to make yearly visits to recharge my frazzled city soul, so as to start each new year refreshed and rejuvenated.
