Shopping for Ski Trip!

In preparation for my upcoming ski trip to Hakuba, I needed to get some new gear and winter essentials online. I added a helmet, a new pair of goggles and another face mask. Such items could be expensive and limited in Singapore, so the best option for me was to shop from US-based retailers.

Shopping for Ski trip

If you are planning your first ski trip, here are the items that you could consider getting:

  • Ski goggles that are anti-fog
  • Waterproof gloves
  • Waterproof ski jacket with insulated layer. Otherwise, pack a fleece jacket to be worn as an inner layer before you pile on the waterproof jacket.
  • Waterproof ski pants
  • A set of very good base layer, such as those from Columbia, North Face or Patagonia
  • Face mask
  • Helmet (Optional: you could rent it at the ski resort.)
  • Skincare: Sunblock and moisturizer for dry skin (Normal moisturizer that you use in Singapore wouldn’t work.)

What to shop for ski trip

I purchased my new helmet, goggles and face mask from Backcountry.com and Amazon.com, and used the freight forwarding service from MyUS.com.

Here’s how you could shop at these US retailers and get them delivered to Singapore fuss-free:

  • Register an account with MyUS.com. Upon registration, you will be provided with a US address.
  • Shop at the US retailers and request to ship the items to this US address (in Sarasota, Florida) provided by MyUS.com.
  • Once your parcel has reached MyUS.com, you will receive a notification from them.
  • You could consolidate parcels from different retailers to save on the shipping cost.
  • Once all your deliveries have reached the US address, you could instruct MyUS.com to ship all the items to your Singapore address. The charges from MyUS.com for this service would be based on the volumetric/actual weight of the consolidated parcel.
  • MyUS.com uses DHL for shipping from US to Singapore. Therefore, the delivery could be tracked and you will receive your items in 3-5 days!

This was my first experience with MyUS.com and I found them very efficient and as good as the other services that I prefer. Cost wise, the delivery price was reasonable, considering that I had a bulky helmet in the package.

If you are interested in signing up for MyUS.com, leave a comment on this post and I could send you a referral link – you will receive 20% off your first shipment with them.

Happy shopping and I will update more about my ski trip! I can’t wait for some powder action!
